Armour for Matrescence, ongoing series 2024-2025

Ceramic armour for the maternal and lactating body, the duality of the armour being both fragile and delicate yet protective and empowering. This incorporates my recent experience as a leaking and changing post-childbirth body, broadening the existing themes in my work around porous boundaries that dissolve the realms between self and other, between bodies and ecosystems, the armour is a container for my body that hybridizes human anatomy with vegetal and aquatic lifeforms - fish scales in place of lamellar plates, aloe vera leaves replace ribs, rhizomatic root systems in place of vein and capillary networks and spikes that annotate milk ducts and nipples.
